Born in Italy in 1890, Donato Ramella came to America in 1906
at age 16.
He landed a job with Carson-Newton File Company.
Donato left Carson-Newton and landed a job in New York at E.C
Muller. It was here that he met Royce Uva and John Genoveese.
U.J Ramelson started in October 1937.
Eventually Donato bought out his two partners and son’s
Lou and Rudy joined him in running the business. Donato retired
when he reached 78 years old. Lou and Rudy built the new factory
on Thomas Street in December 1973.
Lou retired in 1992 after 54 years. Rudy retired in 1994 also
after 50 years of service. The business was transferred to Louie’s
sons, Daniel and John.
October 1, 2003 U.J Ramelson Co, Inc. turned 66 years old.
